Predecessor Abune Antonios
Other posts Bishop of the Seraye district of the Orthodox Church

Abune Dioskoros (born 1935)[1] is the Patriarch of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church, appointed in April 2007[2] with the unanimous approval of the Holy Synod.[3] It was in 2008 reported that certain Eritrean churches did not recognise Abune Dioskoros as patriarch and continued to endorse his predecessor, Abune Antonios,[4] who was removed from the post after having criticized the government of Eritrea.[3] The removal of Abune Antonios at the behest of the Eritrean government was denounced by the other Oriental Orthodox Churches who have all refused to recognize Abune Dioskoros as legitimate Patriarch of Eritrea.
